PhD Course in Law

Educational objectives
The PhD Course in Law of the University of Genoa, due to the high quality of the Board of professors, the articulation into curricula, the common teaching activities and the marked international projection, offers every PhD student the possibility of receiving and education of excellence in both the scientific and civic domains.
The Course aims to train jurists who, although specialized in the different sectors attributable to the four envisaged curricula, acquire (i) a global awareness of the complexities characterizing the study of law and (ii) a specific aptitude to understand its increasingly prominent European and international dimension.
The Course indeed intends to offer an integrated and interdisciplinary path aimed at providing the competences necessary to develop a critical and forward-looking approach in relation to the structure and functions of national, European and international law.
The objective pursued is, therefore, not only that of allowing the acquisition of a specialist culture and of enriching the professional skills necessary for those aspiring to future (i) scientific research activities, but also that of constituting a solid foundation for being able to exercise (ii) legal professions in a globalized and multicultural legal context, carry out (iii) employment and consultancy activities in national and European institutions and international organizations, as well as assume (iv) positions in third-sector associations oriented toward the protection of fundamental rights.
To this end the Course makes use of the competences of a selected circle of visiting professors, of synergies with public and private bodies and institutes, as well as of dedicated teaching activities, also intended to take place at selected foreign Universities.
